Haven't been painting but I am picking it back up tonight and will try to finish the challenge which ends on 3/2.

Someone asked that I try a rabbit in my mushroom.  As much as I love rabbits, I have always struggled painting them but here he is.. with his mushroom.. :)

I have been sick the last few days and since the challenge has no rules, I have been posting paintings I did for Christmas orders and in the last couple of months.

I came down with the cold and so I am posting a painting I wasn't going to use since I couldn't get to painting.  It's called a Starfish Stinkhorn mushroom that resides in Hawaii.  Very weird mushroom.

I decided to add a tree frog for my mushroom today.  I didn't use a reference photo again, trying to learn to be more creative in my own head with painting.  I like the lighter colors and using blues in my greens.  I also was told not to use black but I need to figure out starker darks for shadows so I played with it in this painting.

This one is a ruined one revived from the garbage can due to running out of 5x5 canvas panels. LOL  It dried enough for me to rework and add the vibrant colors again.

Today I was late working on my painting.  I also painted a woody scene from my head and did not use any reference photos as I have been doing for this series.  I think it looks too busy and muddled but my husband liked it.

I tried really hard to minimize my brushstrokes on the mushrooms to maintain a vibrant color.

DAY 5 of my mini mushroom collection for the 30 in 30 Daily Painting Challenge

I struggled a lot with this one and wish there was more detail.  I paint wet on wet (alla prima) and I work the same colors over and over which dulls my paintings and then I can't get detail.  I need to figure out less brush strokes to get more vibrant colors and so I can add a little better detail. 

I am finding my frustration level climbing again at this day as I did with the last three challenges where I stopped right around this day.  I am determined to work through my frustration and continue to have fun and learn more and not worry that they don't turn out great, that at least I am painting and I have a lot of days to go to make one again that I DO like :)

I struggled a lot with this one and am still not happy with the end result but I am happy to be able to take time to paint.

I like how this one turned out. 

I noticed yesterday that I felt a small sense of fulfillment and a slice of peace with finishing a painting and/or felting every day for the last few days.  I have not had this positive sense for a long time.  I have been having a really hard time lately with failure and being lost but I am finding this challenge is giving me a small piece of happy success within my failures and struggles.

30 in 30 Daily Painting Challenge, Feb. '18 ~ DAY 1

I'm participating in the 30 in 30 daily painting challenge again and plan to stick with it this time all the way through! My idea for a theme this time is 5x5 oil paintings of mushrooms.  They're so cute and colorful. My first one has a little friend with him. I haven't painted in a long while and will need to work on my technique again, it is NOT like riding a bike.   I am excited to see my mini mushroom collection at the end of the thirty days!
